But it can do so much more than that!

With the right equipment add-ons, you can control:

  • Allergens,
  • Bacteria,
  • Moisture,
  • Air circulation and more!

So regardless of the weather, you can experience a comfortable, relaxing and safe environment indoors.

Is your air conditioner equipt with the right HVAC add-ons?

Keep reading to find out!

We’ve partnered with our Indoor Air Quality experts at Shipton’s CleanAir Solutions to give you the best, up-to-date IAQ information possible.

Enhance Your Indoor Air Quality and Comfort With These Air Conditioner Add-Ons

Have you taken good care of your air conditioning system? Booked regular maintenance and necessary A/C repair appointments when necessary? If so, your system is probably functioning great!

But why stop there?

There’s always room for improvement – especially in the world of indoor air quality. And we have just the thing!

Take control of your home comfort and air quality this summer with these simple A/C upgrades!

Air Filtration

Upgrading your air conditioner with a high-quality air filtration system can help remove many harmful contaminants from your indoor air. Making it much easier and healthier for you to breathe!

But which air filtration system is best?

At Shipton’s, our air quality experts recommend investing in a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter.

This filter can trap at least 99.97% of airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns, including:

  • Dust
  • Mould (to an extent)
  • Bacteria (to an extent)
  • Pet Dander
  • Pollen…etc.

In fact, our Pristine Air® Bypass HEPA system can even remove particles as small as .01 microns! This makes it one of the most effective ways of reducing allergy and asthma triggers.

But while the HEPA filter does a great job of removing these larger-sized particles, it cannot remove contaminants like VOCs (volatile organic compounds). And it cannot prevent mould, bacteria and viruses from multiplying.

For these, you’ll need to pair your HEPA filter with a few other pieces of IAQ equipment – including a UV Air Purifier!

UV Air Purifier

The UV air purifier doesn’t necessarily “trap” or “remove” contaminants. Instead, it deactivates them.

UV-C light can alter the DNA of microorganisms to effectively neutralize them. This prevents these organisms from multiplying and renders them harmless to you and me!

UV purification inactivates many airborne microorganisms, including

  • Mould,
  • Bacteria and
  • Viruses.

How do you install a UV air purification system? One of three ways!

  1. Most HEPA filters have built-in UV lamps, so you can get the added benefits of both systems without purchasing two separate products.
  2. You can buy a standalone UV air purifier. But because UV light cannot trap/remove particles, this solution is not as effective.
  3. You can install a UV air purifier directly into your existing HVAC system!

But don’t stop here!

While UV light can deactivate many pollutants, others remain unaffected – one of those being VOCs.

Building equipment, paint, cooking activities and even laundry detergents can release harmful VOC concentrations. But neither a HEPA filter nor UV light can remove them!

The solution?

Indoor Air Ventilation

Indoor air ventilation is another vital element of your HVAC system. With proper airflow and circulation, you can protect your health and home!

Indoor Air Ventilation And Your Health

Everyone knows how important fresh air is to your health. And ventilation is key to circulating that fresh air into your home regularly. I’m

Fresh air can dilute or even remove stale air from your home – making it safer for you to breathe in!

Ventilation can help dilute/remove:

  • Harmful pollutants and
  • Dangerous gases (including some VOCs)!

It can also prevent mould growth and help reduce your exposure to allergy or asthma triggers.

Indoor Air Ventilation And Your Home

If you do not have good ventilation in your home, you may notice,

a) Increased condensation on your windows,

b) Mould growth,

c) Strong odours and

d) High humidity.

This can cause wood rot, peeled paint, insect infestation…etc.

Enough moisture damage to your home can also cost you major heat loss and higher fuel bills!

But with proper airflow, you can:

  • Remove some of the excess moisture in your home and
  • Remove/dilute any unpleasant odours.

See our selection of heat recovery ventilators at Shipton’s CleanAir Solutions! These systems are very effective at filtering fresh air throughout your home 24/7!

Dehumidifier

Another sure way to effectively reduce excess moisture in your home is with a whole-house dehumidifier.

Not only is moisture the perfect breeding ground for mould and mildew, but it can also prevent your body from cooling down.

Your body regulates its own internal temperature to keep you healthy and comfortable. And one of the main ways it does this is through sweat!

When the body is too warm, it releases excess moisture, called sweat, onto the skin. As that sweat evaporates from our skin into the surrounding air, the skin begins to cool down.

However, if humidity levels are too high, the sweat on your skin cannot evaporate as quickly. This prevents your body from cooling down and can cause health risks such as:

  • Heat stroke,
  • Heat exhaustion,
  • Elevated heart rate and
  • High blood pressure.

The solution? Installing a whole-house dehumidifier!

Programmable Smart Thermostats

The last air conditioner add-on we want to mention is the programmable, smart thermostat.

This device offers enhanced control over your air conditioner and a simple and affordable way to take your home comfort into your own hands.

With a programmable, smart thermostat, you can control and improve your:

  • Home comfort,
  • Ventilation,
  • Humidity control,
  • Airflow and
  • Indoor air quality – all from your phone!
